The first trip to the state tournament was memorable for second-ranked Orrville (28-1) and 28-year Head Coach Diane Shanklin as the Red Riders stopped unranked Versailles in the finals, 15-5, 15-9. Orrville’s only loss came in its season opener to league rival and Division II state runner-up Millersburg West Holmes. It was the first trip to the finals for Versailles. Orrville won its semifinal match over Williamsport Westfall, 15-1, 15-2, and Versailles was a 15-13, 15-8 semifinal winner over Genoa Area.
